Holiday Party at the Boston Home. Inspiring. Reminds Me of What We Should Work for on Beacon Hill.

Yesterday I stopped in at the holiday party at the Boston Home. I look forward to this every year as the Boston Home holds a special place in my heart. It is one of a handful of residential facilities nationwide and the only one in New England that specifically treats adults with advanced Multiple Sclerosis and other progressive neurological disorders. During our last budget process, I filed an amendment, which was adopted, to ensure that the Boston Home receives proper reimbursement for the work they do. Aside from treating residents with the utmost care, the Boston Home also employs a large number of nurses, nurses’ aides and other health care professionals, many of whom live in Dorchester.
The holiday party was, as it always is, a festive affair. A fantastic two person band was playing Al Green and MJ, along with holiday classics. Singing along and sipping drinks, the residents were clearly enjoying themselves. Every time I spend time with them and the staff at the Boston Home, I am truly inspired on both a personal and professional level. Even in these tough economic times, it is the responsibility of our government to look out for the least among us. We need to continue to support both the residents, who are fighting neurological diseases, and the staff at the Boston Home, who work with the utmost love and care.
Thank you Boston Home for all you do and happy holidays to all the residents and staff.
