Additional Southbound Overnight Lane Restrictions
Neponset River Bridge, between Boston and Quincy
MassDOT’s contractor will be working overnight on the Neponset River Bridge, which carries traffic between Boston and Quincy on Sunday, July 25, Monday, July 26, and Tuesday, July 27, 2010.
During the work, there will be a double, southbound (outbound) left lane closure in place from 10:30 PM to 6 AM and all southbound traffic will be directed off at the Hancock Street ramp. Drivers destined to Quincy Shore Drive will be detoured along Hancock Street, turn left at East Squantum Street and follow to Quincy Shore Drive.
As part of the Neponset River Bridge Rehabilitation Project, the following lane restrictions are in place until further notice.
- There will be 3 northbound travel lanes from the mid point of the bridge to Neponset Circle and one southbound travel lane from Neponset Circle to the midpoint of the bridge Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 10 AM.
- At all other times, two lanes will be provided in each direction on the main span of the bridge and southbound traffic traveling to Quincy Shore Drive will be directed to the left lane that will occupy a portion of the northbound side of the bridge and Southbound traffic traveling to Hancock Street will be directed to the far right lane on the southbound side of the bridge.
- The Quincy Shore Drive eastbound ramp to Marina Bay (via Commander Shea Blvd.) is closed until November. This closure will allow for crews to complete Phase 1 demolition and bridge deck reconstruction. In order to detour, motorists should continue straight on Quincy Shore Drive eastbound and turn left at the traffic signal onto Bay State Road and take another left onto the Bay State Road to Quincy Shore Drive westbound. From there motorists can access Commander Shea Blvd.
