Join Me Tonight & on January 30th as We Remember Haiti & Look Ahead in 2012
14
This month we remember the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010. It is a time of remembrance and prayer for my family and for so many of our friends across the world who care about Haiti. I recall the shock and horror of Jan. 12, 2010 like it was yesterday. And yet I also carry with me the courage shown by first responders— everyday Haitians who risked life and limb to save their neighbors. Before the world arrived on scene, it was Haitians helping Haitians. Since that time, volunteers, both Haitian and not, from across our state and across the world have dedicated their time to relief and reconstruction. On this second anniversary, I want to thank all those who have worked so diligently for the past two years and who, I know, will continue in their efforts on behalf of Haiti. Although progress has been made, there is still much work left to be done and I look forward to continuing that work together in 2012.
Throughout the month of January Haitians and friends of Haiti are gathering together to remember, celebrate the work that has been done and look to what we have left to accomplish in Haiti. Events include:
- Haitian Americans United kicked off the month with their Annual Haitian Independence Gala on January 7th at Lombardos.
- Tonight the Association of Haitian Women in Boston (AFAB) hosts Nou Pap Janm Bliye/ We Will Never Forget at Roxbury Community College. To view part of my remarks, follow the link: AFAB RCC Haiti Event LDF Speech.
- On January 30th at 11:00am at the Grand Staircase in the State House, I will join the Governor in hosting “Reflections on Haiti: Two Years After the Earthquake.”
I hope to see you there!
