Asian Longhorned Beetle Alert
16
In light of the recent discovery of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) in Jamaica Plain, it is important that everyone be informed of the invasive pest that has had a staggering impact on several of our cities and towns.
Over 25,000 trees have been removed to fight the spread of the beetle since it was discovered in Worcester in August 2008. The ALB threatens urban and suburban shade trees, our parks and forests. ALB infestation weakens and kills trees which causes public safety concerns. It also negatively affects industries such as maple syrup production, timber, nurseries and tourism.
